SFDOST stands for Society For Development Of Scientific Temperament in the Punjabi community. SFDOST is a non-profit organisation that promotes Punjabi language and aids in the progress of the Punjabi community. The name 'Punjabi' here does not refer to a religion, but rather to the Punjabi-speaking population, regardless of caste, religion, or faith. Our overarching goal is to digitally empower the Punjab region so that the Punjabi-speaking population can better utilise digital platforms in their everyday lives and livelihoods. Punjabi Community Development
To ensure that every person who speaks Punjabi as their only or preferred language has the same opportunity for growth as people from other regions.
Language should not be used as a constraint or as a barrier.
We are focusing specifically on the Punjabi language, as the pandemic hit the Punjabi masses worse. During the pandemic, when the whole world was forced to go digital for their survival, people who could read and write Punjabi only struggled due to the lack of information or services offered in the Punjabi language itself. Secondly, as Punjabis, we would like to see our community progress where possible. Our main aim is to ensure the availability of Punjabi on digital platforms and to encourage the community to use digital platforms for their own progress. In this digital world, digital knowledge and awareness will surely improve the lives and livelihoods of the community. SFDOST actively reached out to various government departments with the aim of garnering support and collaboration in this endeavor.
The main aim of this initiative is to encourage the collective development of the Punjabi community as a whole. For this noble cause, we have been doing a number of activities, the most important one is Digital Platform Te Punjabi (DPTeP). DPTeP is an initiative where we are encouraging youngsters to use Punjabi on digital platforms so that Punjabi is recognized and more tools and applications will be made available in the same.
We are reaching out to various organisations and MNCs that provide various kinds of services, and we are requesting that they provide the services in Punjabi so that more and more Punjabi people can take advantage of the digital platform.
At the same time, we want to collaborate and highlight the organisations who are already doing outstanding work in the area so that the Punjabi community has much more awareness and better understanding of the options available to them.
The sole aim of this initiative is to indulge the youngsters on the path of success. To achieve the same, a video-making contest has been organized for an age group of 10 to 18 years of age. We encourage students to think about progress whether it is individual family or that of the community so that people and kids realize what success is and how it can be achieved in our life.
Scholarship Scheme is an exciting opportunity for students who aspire to clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination after completing their Class 12. The scheme aims to motivate and support these students by providing cash rewards for their exceptional achievement. The primary objective of the scheme is to encourage students to invest their efforts in preparing for competitive exams, particularly the UPSC exam, which opens doors to various job opportunities in the public sector. By incentivizing success in the UPSC exam, WAJIFA aims to engage students in career-oriented activities, fostering their dedication and commitment to pursuing careers in public service.
In Punjab, a glaring language disparity exists in government tenders. Out of 1,760 surveyed, a mere 30 were in Punjabi, despite the region's rich linguistic heritage. This contrasts with political promises of inclusive employment opportunities and potentially marginalizes Punjabis. Concerned citizens and groups advocate for bilingual tenders in both Punjabi and English, promoting equal opportunity and honoring cultural identity. Supporters are rallying through petitions and community discussions, pushing for transparency and inclusivity. This move towards linguistic equality not only ensures economic growth but also respects Punjab's cultural roots.
"Tech Talks in Punjabi" will include the web series with the Punjabi technical people to understand the challenges in promoting Punjabi and also how we can take leverage of current existing Technologies to reach out to people and encourage Punjabi on digital platforms.
The initiatives listed above are a few of our current and ongoing endeavours to promote our languages, boost our language and service presence on social media, and aid in the progress of Punjab and our people.
